Overnight lane closures for I-405 toll equipment installation in Kirkland

Drivers on Interstate 405 in north Kirkland should prepare for possible delays Monday through Thursday nights during the next several weeks.

The following is a release from the Washington State Department of Transportation:

Drivers on Interstate 405 in north Kirkland should prepare for possible delays Monday through Thursday nights during the next several weeks. Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation plan to close up to three lanes in each direction between Northeast 124th Street and Northeast 160th Street to install toll equipment for the I-405 Bellevue to Lynnwood Widening and Express Toll Lanes project.

Northbound I-405 closures between Northeast 124th Street and Northeast 160th Street:

  • Monday, Jan. 12, to the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 14 – Up to two left lanes will close nightly from 7:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Wednesday, Jan. 14, to the morning of Thursday, Jan. 15 – The HOV lane will close from 7:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Thursday, Jan. 15, to the morning of Friday, Jan. 16 – Up to two left lanes will close from 7:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Southbound I-405 closures between Northeast 160th Street and Northeast 124th Street:

  • Wednesday, Jan. 14, to the morning of Thursday, Jan. 15 – Up to two left lanes will close from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Thursday, Jan. 15, to the morning of Friday, Jan. 16 – Up to three left lanes will close starting at 7 p.m. Two lanes will close at 7:30 p.m., and three lanes will close at 10:30 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m.

As soon as the end of next week, drivers may start to notice blue flashing lights over the lanes. These lights are part of toll equipment testing. No tolls will be charged, and there will be no changes to the way the HOV lane will operate.

This work schedule is subject to change. For the most up-to-date details and a full listing of closures for this project, please visit the I-405 construction updates page.
