In the first KingCo/WesCo Challenge hosted by Juanita, the Lady Rebels faced tough opponents, including ranked teams Lynnwood and Jackson.
Against Lynnwood on Tuesday morning, the Rebels lost by five points to the No. 9 3A team. Lynnwood outpaced the Rebels in the second quarter, putting up 16 points to Juanita’s 10 after a 14-13 first quarter. Juanita tried to rebound in the second half, but couldn’t get the points to even things out. They lost 56-51.
Senior captain Kate Cryderman had 17 points, while Taylor Paddock posted 11 and Molly Grager had 10. Mikayla Jones added eight to the mix, while Tayler Lloyd put up three and Bre Carter had two.
The next afternoon the Rebels returned with a 65-54 win over Shorecrest.
Juanita commanded the game throughout the match, spreading the scoring out through the team. Jones, Grager and Carter each had 14 points for the team, with Cryderman adding 10 of her own. Paddock put up five, Destry Seiler added four and Jessica Latousek scored two points.
In the final game of the tournament the Rebels faced Jackson, a 4A team. Juanita earned another win in a 58-36 win over Jackson.
Jones had the team high of 17 points during the last game of the tournament, while Cryderman had 14 and Carter had 13. Paddock had nine points for the team, while Lloyd added three and Grager had two.
The team returns to KingCo action this week with a league matchup Friday, Jan. 7 at Mercer Island.
