The following is a release from the Lake Washington School District:
What does a 1,064 cupcake mosaic of “Fox in Socks,” a free book giveaway and free dinner have in common? All were available at the Family Literacy Night held at John Muir Elementary on March 5.
By all accounts, the event was a huge success with nearly 400 students and their families attending. The evening included a combination of fun literacy activities based on the new state standards, a school library book fair, a free book giveaway thanks to a generous donation from the Kirkland Kiwanis and a free dinner including clam chowder donated by Ivar’s, tomato soup provided by Sodexo, and breadsticks donated by Olive Garden.
As a salute to Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2 and Read Across America events, an incredible 1,064 cupcake mosaic of “Fox in Socks” was engineered by Buzz Anderson, husband of Gail Anderson, the Muir office secretary. The cupcakes were on display before being eaten during this fun family event. John Muir has a long history of encouraging families to be actively involved in the learning of their children. This year marked their 12th annual Family Literacy Night.
