Youngsters from Bright Horizons at Kirkland child care kicked off the Kirkland Wednesday Market’s 2012 season as the group sang “Apples and Bananas” on Park Lane Wednesday.
The kids were each rewarded with an apple following their performance, courtesy of vendor Collins Family Orchard.
Many city dignitaries were on hand for the ribbon cutting, including Kirkland Mayor Joan McBride, Deputy Mayor Doreen Marchione, Councilwoman Amy Walen, Councilwoman Penny Sweet and Kurt Triplett, city manager.
Shoppers lured by the scent of flowers and soaps, as well as the sight of fresh produce, jewelry – and sunshine – lined Park Lane to buy from 45 vendors.
The Kirkland Downtown Association-hosted event draws more than 2,000 visitors each week. The farmers market will be open from 2-7 p.m., each Wednesday through Oct. 17.
