Juanita softball faces close opposition in Bellevue loss

The Juanita softball team pushed it as close as they could, but couldn’t quite overcome a loss to the second place KingCo team on Wednesday afternoon.

Juanita, the top team in KingCo with a 13-3, 7-1 record, lost to Bellevue, 5-4.

Bellevue was able to grab a quick lead, scoring in the first inning, but Juanita followed suit, adding three runs in the second and third for a 3-1 lead before Bellevue surged at the top of the third inning. The teams battled with adding runs until the the sixth inning when Juanita was finally able to get past the Bellevue defense. Despite their best efforts to keep Bellevue from scoring again, the Wolverines added another run in the seventh to take the game.

Juanita’s Jessica Leach was 2-4 at bat, while Brooke Rychard was 2-3 and Kellie Shinstrom was 1-3 with 2 RBI and a home run. Bellevue’s Taylor Cooke was 2-4 with 2 RBI and a home run, while Kelly Meggs was 2-4 and Katie Savard was 2-4 with a double.

Juanita pitcher Kylie Sparks pitched all seven innings for the Rebels, giving up nine hits and allowing five runs. Bellevue pitcher Emily Fleishman also pitched the full game, allowing eight hits and four runs.

Lake Washington golfers lose to Inglemoor

As the post season creeps closer the Lake Washington golfers lost to Inglemoor on Wednesday afternoon at Inglewood Golf Course. The Kangs had 298 strokes, while the Vikings had 255 strokes for the win.

Inglemoor’s Jenna Harken was the medalist, shooting a 46. Course par is 37. Danielle Lungren, also from Inglemoor, finished second with a 47, while Viking teammate Sarah Scharke was third with a 53. Lake Washington’s Anna Jessen tied with Rachel Ohrenshall for fourth place after shooting a 54.

Mount Si blanks Juanita baseball Wednesday

The Juanita baseball team fell to Mount Si on Wednesday afternoon, losing 4-0 to the Wildcats.

Both teams were slow on the start, with Mount Si scoring the first runs in the third inning, followed by another run in the fourth and the final scoring run in the sixth inning. Juanita had two hits during the game, but was never able to get across home plate to score.

Lake Washington softball powers past Newport

The Lake Washington softball team earned a inter-divisional win over Newport on Wednesday afternoon, beating the Knights 12-0.

The Kangs quickly found a groove, putting up eight runs in the first inning and following it with another four in the second. Newport had three hits during the game, but couldn’t capitalize to turn hits into scoring runs.

Lake Washington’s Haley Andrews was 2-3 at bat with a single, while Whitney Dunlap was 2-2 with one RBI. Teammate Elsa Moyer was 1-3 with 3 RBI and a triple.

The Kangs are 8-6, 6-4 in league play, sitting in third place in the KingCo crown division.

Lake Washington boys soccer battles to scoreless finish against Woodinville

The Lake Washington boys soccer team ended it’s third scoreless game on Tuesday night, tying with Woodinville 0-0. The Kangs, who sit in ninth place in the KingCo 4A boys soccer standings, are 2-7-3 this season.

The team will travel to Eastlake tomorrow night for a conference battle against the Wolves, before heading home for the final regular season game of the year against Garfield on Tuesday, May 4. Games begin at 7:30 p.m.
