Kirkland swimmer Olivia Lautman takes bronze in Para-Swimming Championships

Kirkland’s Olivia Lautman, along with fellow Pacific Northwest athletes, competed at the CanAm Para-Swimming Championships in Edmonton, Alberta on Dec. 5-7.

Kirkland’s Olivia Lautman, along with fellow Pacific Northwest athletes, competed at the CanAm Para-Swimming Championships in Edmonton, Alberta on Dec. 5-7.

Lautman, representing Wave Aquatics, swam with some of the world’s best para-swimming athletes during the three day international meet. The USA Team, along with national para-swimming teams from Brazil, Korea, Canada and France, attended the competition.

Lautman swam in seven events posting best times in nearly every event. Lautman’s best race was a bronze in the 200-yard individual medley.

Lautman was 12 seconds out of third after the butterfly and backstroke legs and still three seconds out third during the breaststroke leg. With one length of freestyle to go she set off on a blistering pace. She drew up even with about 20 meters to go and finished with an all time best and good enough for bronze.
