I am compelled to write the Kirkland Reporter after reading the story about the dog shot in the Kirkland family’s backyard (June 30 issue). I feel badly for the poor animal that has suffered an injury from the BB puncture. I abhor the mistreatment of animals. At the same time, I feel anger at the irresponsible homeowners who are suppose to provide care and support for the animal.
“The family said they have had a few complaints about the dogs barking in the past.” Yet they obviously did nothing to address the problem. They continued to lock the dogs in the side yard and allow them to yap continuously for extended periods of the day causing immense discomfort for the neighbors. Yapping dogs can be a tremendous source of irritation and pet owners who allow their animals to continually bark – especially after neighbors have brought the problem to their attention – are asking for trouble. It’s just too bad that whoever did this didn’t confront the owners with their frustrations rather than taking a pot shot at the dog.
