I read your recent article regarding Pastor Ken Hutcherson’s vow to fight same-sex marriage with incredulity.

Hutcherson’s statement of “it’s a well-known fact that the constitution does not protect a minority that can change from one thing to the other,” is complete nonsense. The constitution protects religion, and by definition, people can, and do, change religions or drop religion altogether. This argument makes no sense.

Later in the article, he states “There’s no protection for a business that is owned by Christians that if you want to refuse a same-sex couple coming in because of your religious beliefs…,”

Well there shouldn’t be. How would Hutcherson feel if he walked into a coffee shop owned by a Muslim or an Atheist that refused him service based on their religious beliefs? I guarantee you he would be suing immediately.

I am a married heterosexual male. Allowing same-sex couples to have the same protections under the law that I enjoy will not in any way affect me.  Government shouldn’t even be in the business of “allowing” a contractual relationship between consenting adults. America is supposed to be a free country. It’s time we started acting like it.

Hutcherson needs to spend his time as Jesus would have wanted – helping people, not spewing hate.
