CORE Theatrics is currently working on its latest summer musical, “All Shook Up” by Joe Di Pietro, featuring the songs of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Elvis Presley to be performed in Kirkland.
“All Shook Up” tips its hat to Shakespeare, specifically his comedies “Twelfth Night” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” with themes of unrequited love, humorous confusion and an ultimately happy ending.
In “All Shook Up,” a sleepy 1950s town is forever changed when Chad (Ulyber Mangune) comes to town with his free spirit, leather jacket, jeans and blue suede shoes. He brings with him music, freedom and, of course, pelvis shaking. “All Shook Up” features 24 Presley classics, such as “Jailhouse Rock” and “Heartbreak Hotel.”
“All Shook Up” is a serious celebration of being alive and appropriate for all ages.
“When looking at a well-rounded musical theater education, it is important for young adult artists to have the opportunity to tackle and explore a jukebox musical,” said CORE artistic director and show director, Marianni Groves. “Learning to tackle the unique structure of a jukebox musical and getting the opportunity to visit the iconic lyrics of a musical legend is a great and challenging opportunity. They not only get to bring new life and light to them, but they also get the opportunity to introduce new generations to them and leave them dancing out of the theater.”
Sheri Lewis is the choreographer for “All Shook Up” and Paul Linnes is the musical director.
Show dates and times are July 25-26 and Aug. 1-2 at 7 p.m. and Aug. 3 at 3 p.m.
