Joyous Songs of America will fill Bastyr University Chapel on Saturday evening, April 27, when Kirkland Choral Society presents lively folk tunes, heartwarming spirituals, and jazz favorites in a toe-tapping season finale.

From the soothing melody of “Deep River” to the fun-loving “Skip to My Lou,” Dr. Glenn R. Gregg, artistic director of KCS, has delved deep into our country’s rich musical heritage for stirring arrangements of timeless classics and 20th century favorites.

Selections from Gershwin’s beloved Opera, Porgy and Bess, the elegant jazz number, “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” by Duke Ellington, and Bernstein’s “Best of All Possible Worlds” are interspersed with traditional folk songs and sacred melodies to round out this exciting finale to the Kirkland Choral Society’s 24th Season.

Bastyr University Chapel is located at 14500 Juanita Drive N.E. in the heart of St. Edward State Park, Kenmore. The concert begins at 7.30 p.m.   Tickets are adult, $18; student/senior $12, available at kirklandchoralsociety.org or by phoning 425-296-0612.

Arrive early and enjoy a pleasant pre-concert stroll through the park’s level upland  trails, or brave the longer walk  down the hill  behind the chapel to a serene path that follows the shoreline north through one of the last heavily wooded areas on Lake Washington.
