All three synchronized swimmers who feinted during a practice on April 21 at a Kenmore pool not only fully recovered, but competed with their team and placed fourth in the 13-15 age group at the Esynchro Age Group National Championships recently held in Binghamton, N.Y. The group, which competes for the Seattle Synchronized Swim Team, consists of Emily Drew, Sofia Drogomiretskiy, Chelsea Menen, Miranda Sage, Elise Sobotka, Sydney Sprinkle and Mary Claire Squires. Sage and Squires are from Kirkland.

Other national place finishes from Seattle Synchro’s 13-15 Team included a seventh place in the finals for the trio routine of Drogomiretskiy, Menen, Sprinkle and alternate Sobotka.

For solo routines, Drogomiretskiy and Drew placed 9th and 14th, respectively. Drew and Sage’s duet tied for 17th place. Competing individually in the 11-12 age group, Sage placed fifth for her solo routine and sixth in the nation in the 11-12 age group “figures.” Additionally, Sprinkle’s 16th place in the 13-15 age group “figures” qualified her to compete for a spot on the 13-15 national team at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado.

A draft report of findings by the King County’s Department of Health is still forthcoming as to what led three unidentified girls from the team to simultaneously pass-out — and a fourth to nearly feint — during a routine warm-up practice on April 21. To date, no clear determination has been made.
