We need to invest in our community | Letter

Have the residents of Kirkland turned into people who can’t or won’t get things done?

Have the residents of Kirkland turned into people who can’t or won’t get things done?

We who live in Kirkland today continually enjoy the investments of past generations of Kirklanders. What will be our legacy – one of distrust of our elected officials so severe we won’t invest in our own community?

When you go about your day, you use or enjoy roads, art, parks – many services and amenities that past residents were willing to pay for.

Our city government has won awards for being so well run. I’ve lived in Kirkland for 23 years and I’ve seen the city respond to the concerns of its residents. Those opposed to Prop. 1 seem to have a fundamental distrust of government. They aren’t critical of the ARC [Aquatics, Recreation and Community center], but of the MPD [Metropolitan Parks District] that will fund it.

We elect the City Council, we vote on the MPD, so our voices can be heard. Kirkland will be a better city if the ARC is built, and the MPD is the most efficient way of making that happen. Surely we are capable of getting this done.
