Summer is a very fun time to be a kid in Kirkland. There are many activities and events that take place this time of year. From parks and festivals, to concerts and parades, Kirkland has things for people of all ages. Here are some examples of things you can do over the summer:
• There are many parks in Kirkland. Some examples are Marina Park, Heritage Park, and Waverly Beach Park. It is fun to pack a picnic dinner and relax outside or look up at the stars. Peter Kirk Park even has a brand new playground!
• Another fun thing to do in the summertime is to visit the Kirkland Wednesday Market on Park Lane to enjoy the different flowers, fruits, vegetables, jewelry and other items for sale. There are lots of vendors and different things for people to enjoy.
• There are also many ice cream, frozen yogurt, and gelato places in Kirkland such as Ben & Jerry’s, Coffee and Cone, Sirena Gelato, Cé fiore, and Shnoo Yogurt.
• It’s fun to go to the Carillon Point Outdoor Movie Nights. Tickets are $5 each, and benefits Hopelink. They show different movies on Saturdays from July 9 to Aug. 20. Come to the Plaza of Carillon Point overlooking Lake Washington.
Some of the movies that will be playing this summer are “Dirty Dancing,” July 9, rated PG-13; “Despicable Me,” July 23, rated PG; “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” Aug. 6, PG-13; and “How to Train Your Dragon,” Aug. 20, rated PG. For more information, go to www.carillon-point.com/home/movie.html.
• And last but not least, there is the free Kirkland Summer Concert series. They have children’s concerts from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesdays. Some examples of what they are playing are Cowboy Buck and Elizabeth, playing on July 12 and Eric Ode on Aug. 16.
There are also concerts for adults and children from 7-9 p.m. Thursdays, such as Mud Junket, on July 28 and Soul Purpose, on Aug. 11. For more information, go to www.kirklandsummerconcerts.org.
As summer rolls around the corner and the weather gets hot (finally!), it is a nice time to enjoy all the fun events and activities Kirkland has to offer. Well, see you soon! I’m now heading off to wade at the beach and have some gelato!
