Juanita advances to district tournament as No. 2 seed | Prep volleyball

The Juanita Rebels volleyball team had its best finish ever at the KingCo tournament last weekend, taking second place behind the undefeated Mt. Si Wildcats. Juanita soundly defeated Mercer Island Friday night 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-19) to secure their spot in the finals.

The Rebels played solidly throughout the first game, with Jade Finau setting up 28 assists along with nine digs. Dana Michels had 15 kills, 11 digs and four service aces. Alex Gollersrud contributed six kills and Natalie Marrs had six kills and two blocks. Libero Candace Cromer had 13 digs along with two service aces.

Saturday night the Rebels struggled against the undefeated Mt. Si team, losing 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-23). Candace Cromer had 14 digs against thier tough hitting. Dana Michels had nine kills and 12 digs and Lilly Cole added six kills. Jade Finau had 19 assists along with six digs.

The Rebels move into the District tournament, which began Thursday at West Seattle, hoping to secure a first ever state berth for the Lady Rebels. The top five teams at the district tournament will advance to the state tournament, held Nov. 12-13 in Kennewick.

During the KingCo tournament both Jade Finau and Dana Michels were selected for the KingCo all-conference first team. Candace Cromer was selected for the second team, and Natalie Marrs and Elizabeth Tran received Honorable Mention.
