A letter in last week’s Kirkland Reporter from Ken Davidson makes me wonder what the advocates of annexation are trying to pull over our eyes. His first contention, “Residents of Finn Hill, Juanita and Kingsgate can improve government services without raising their taxes by voting for annexation to Kirkland on Nov. 3” is outrageous. Mr. Davidson, have you not heard about the 7.5 percent utility tax, which we will have to pay if we annex. I don’t know about you, but 7.5 percent, in addition to the utilities I paid last year, is a huge chunk of money. The proponents like to say we can control our utility usage and thus reduce our tax. This is preposterous. We have turned down our thermostats and reduced our water usage to a bare minimum, years ago. The proponents of annexation just don’t understand basic economics. When service levels go up, taxes go up. Vote no to Annexation.
