Camp Unity Eastside encampment for homeless residents will return to Kirkland on Friday at the Kirkland Congregational Church. The group will return to Holy Spirit Lutheran church on Nov. 1.

Camp Unity Eastside is a transitional mobile encampment and self managed outside community.

“We make our focus on giving a hand up to those who have a need for simple shelter,” Outside Director Allen Bolen said. “Each member here is a responsible and active part of keeping CUE running.”

The encampment will be set up in the Church’s parking lot at 106 Fifth Ave., across from Kirkland City Hall starting Aug. 1.

According to the permit, the encampment will have a maximum of 75 people and will remain at the location until Oct. 31.

To offset the cost of operating and handling the responsibilities that come from offering a place to reside, shower, eat and safety, each member pays a maintenance fee of $30.

“In this way we empower our camp and each other to be contributors,” Bolen said. “​We are supported by donations in kind.”

The group will specifically accept meals, food and clothing from the community.

“They are what makes us capable of providing beyond our own means,” Bolen said.

This is the first time that the group has been hosted by the Kirkland Congregational Church.

“We are excited to be part of Kirkland once again,” Bolen said.

Kirkland Congregational Church is located at 106 5th Ave in Kirkland, while Holy Spirit is located at 10021 NE 124th St in Kirkland. The permit and Administrative Approval Decision is posted online at www.kirklandwa.gov.

Members of Camp Unity were former residents of Tent City 4 and separated in November 2012, establishing its camp at Lake Washington United Methodist Church, 7525 132nd Ave. N.E.
