The Kirkland American Little League 9/10 softball team went 9-1 in district and state tournaments to win the Washington state championship on July 27.
Kirkland American dominated Snohomish Valley, Bellevue East and Mercer Island by a combined score of 69-12 on the way to the District 9 title game where they beat Snohomish Valley again to take the title. The tournament ran from July 5-July 12 at Big Finn Hill Park.
After winning the first two games of the state tournament, the Kirkland team ran into their first roadblock in East Jefferson and fell 9-1. But the team rebounded to win three straight games, including two in a row over East Jefferson to become the Washington state champions. The tournament was at Everest Park in Kirkland and ran from July 19-July 27.
