A 60-year-old Issaquah man has been charged with communication with a minor for immoral purposes involving a 12-year-old girl during a Thanksgiving event at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Kirkland last year.

The King County Prosecutor’s Office is accusing Michael Terrones Montes of inappropriately touching a girl who was with her family for the church event on Nov. 23, 2014.

According to testimony provided to police by the girl’s mother, one of the male volunteers at the church followed her family around throughout the evening, and then at around 6:30 p.m. he followed their daughter into a craft area in a different building, where she was separated from the rest of her family. There, the man allegedly showed the girl tattoos on his arms and legs. Later during a game with the congregation, the girl told police, the man touched her body, including the rear of her bra with his hands. He allegedly told her, among other things, “I go to bed naked” and “Do you sleep naked, too?” He then told her not to tell her mother anything he had said. According to the girl, this happened when there were a lot of people around and mostly whispered.

The girl’s parents found out about what had happened after the church event when their daughter got upset about the possibility of attending another church event.

Police were later able to identify Montes, whom they discovered had been arrested in 2004 for stalking, then in 2012 for assault at a Bellevue church shelter for homeless men. When questioned at the church, Montes denied having spoken to the girl or even recalling her or her family. He also allegedly said he had showed his tattoos to lot of people, but refused to show them to the officer.

The Prosecutor’s Office is requesting bail be set at $40,000.
