The City of Kirkland seeks applicants for its Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC). Eligible organizations are invited to propose representatives for appointment to the committee. The LTAC advises the Kirkland City Council on allocating the lodging excise tax fund for tourism promotion and is comprised of seven voting members. State statute establishes the specific makeup of the committee, which consists of one member of the Kirkland City Council (who serves as chair), three representatives from organizations representing businesses required to collect the lodging tax, and three representatives of organizations involved in activities authorized to be funded by lodging tax revenue or local agencies involved in tourism promotion.
Membership terms of the advisory committee are through June 30 of each year following appointment and are reviewed annually by the city council. The committee generally meets monthly or as needed. Applications are available at the information counter at City Hall, 123 Fifth Avenue; by telephone at 425-587-3190; or on the city’s Web site at www.ci.kirkland.wa.us. Applications may be submitted via mail to City Hall, e-mailed (kanderson@ci.kirkland.wa.us) or faxed to 425-587-3198 by 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 22.
Beginning in 2002, a one percent excise tax has been collected on charges for lodging and motel room fees. This “lodging tax” funds tourism promotion and the acquisition or operation of tourism related facilities. For more information on LTAC, go to www.ci.kirkland.wa.us/cmo (Select: Tourism Program).
