The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter Police Blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 800 per week.
Between March 17-23, the Kirkland Police Department reported 533 traffic violations (four DUIs), 21 alarm calls, 10 car accidents, six noise complaints, 13 thefts, eight car prowls, four domestic violence calls, three acts of fraud, nine calls for animal control, four domestic violence incidents, 16 calls of a disturbance and five calls of harassment. At least 32 people were arrested.
March 23
DUI: 2:21 a.m., 12223 N.E. 116th Street. A 23-year-old Seattle man was stopped and arrested for DUI after submitting a blood alcohol content of .150.
Theft: 11 a.m., 8629 120th Ave. N.E. A 34-year-old Kirkland woman was arrested after shoplifting two pairs of jeans from Costco.
March 22
Domestic: 12:43 p.m., 4300 block of Lake Washington Boulevard. A formerly dating couple no longer wanting to have contact with the other person asked police to pass the message.
March 21
Assault: 2 a.m., 218 Central Way. A 29-year-old woman noticed her purse was missing after she left the Time Out Tavern. The woman and a 29-year-old female cousin noticed two 21-year-old females going through her purse in front of a restaurant. When confronted, one of the suspects pushed one of the women to the ground, causing injury to her elbow. Police arrived shortly after to see the two suspects fleeing the scene. After apprehension, one of the suspects produced the 29-year-old woman’s driver’s license from under her shirt and insisted she did not know how it got there. The two suspects were arrested, one for theft and the other for assault.
Theft: 7:06 a.m., 9800 block of N.E. 116th Street. A 47-year-old cab driver from Tukwila got into a verbal altercation with a 19-year-old female from Bothell over cab fare. The 19-year-old man grabbed the cab driver’s cell phone and walked away, eventually throwing the phone into a pond. The 19-year-old man was eventually arrested for theft.
Domestic: 2:08 p.m., 600 block of 14th Place. A 44-year-old woman called police after a 13-year-old sister and 15-year-old brother got into an altercation. There were conflicting reports on what happened and no one was hurt. No crime was committed.
Warrant arrest: 5:39 p.m., 12200 block of 120th Ave. N.E. An officer contacted a 47-year-old suspect with a liquor violation and discovered he had an outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrant. The man was arrested.
March 20
Domestic: 3:22 p.m., 6200 102nd Place N.E. A verbal disturbance was reported between a married couple. The dispute began when the woman attempted to drive the family car with an 11-year-old child and the man took the keys from her, upsetting the wife. The couple has decided to get divorced and separated for the night.
March 19
Assault: 3 p.m., Lake Street and Kirkland Ave. A protester was kicked by an unknown male suspect following a heated political debate. The suspect left without identification or apprehension.
March 18
Obstructing: 11:46 p.m., 11800 124th Ave. N.E. A subject panicked and ran from a traffic stop. The 20-year-old Kirkland man was identified shortly before turning himself in to police.
March 17
Theft: 10 a.m., 12200 120th Ave. N.E. A 27-year-old woman reported a theft of $20 from her purse while she was working at Fred Meyers doing inventory. There was an additional theft at the same time.
Malicious mischief: 5:25 p.m., 300 block of Second Ave. South. Two males were observed spray painting their tags on private property along Second Ave. South. The males were gone upon arrival. A witness described the males to be in their 20s and wearing long, baggy t-shirts.
Theft: 7:14 p.m., 10625 N.E. 68th Street. A subject entered Bartells and stole a bag full of unknown items.
