I am a Merrill Gardens resident (as of four years ago) and attended the recent meeting presented by one of the resident’s sons. He showed us drawings of the proposed six-story Lake Street Place development that will be constructed directly opposite of our already-crowded entrance. We are hoping the city will not go through with this project.
It is unfair to the senior residents – especially those with walkers and wheelchairs who walk (wheel) across and down the alley, just to feel the fresh air and be in the sunshine or even to drop in to Hector’s or Tully’s on nice days. Just imagine the traffic with the 101 building as well as the cars coming and going from the proposed building and Lake Street, Main Street and Kirkland Avenue!
Of course, it would also cut out our light and sun through our dining and living room windows. Horrors!
I’m one of the lucky ones who can walk everywhere, but I feel sorry, especially for those who cannot and also for the view that would be spoiled for the residents who paid for apartments with views of the lake facing wrest.
Please think it over and talk it over with the Merrill Gardens headquarters and Kirkland City Council members.
