The Lake Washington High School dance team is once again off to a great start.
The new 2009-2010 team for the Kangs has been in place for just a short time, yet they had a very successful summer camp at the UDA training held in July at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma. Eleven teams participated in this rigorous four-day event, with Lake Washington winning the home routine competition and qualifying for nationals. Part of this summer training camp is to evaluate the ability of the athletes to quickly learn and master new routines. The LW squad received all superior ribbons for their ability to perform new routines and were awarded a superior trophy. In addition, team members Mallory Bigleman, Alena Perez, Sophie Sturdevant and Gennifer Kully received the All American title, prestigious recognition awarded to senior athletes demonstrating exceptional ability. Awards such as these are an incredible honor for the team, however Coach Lindsey Beck is said to be most proud of the recognition her team received at the conclusion of each day by being recognized for demonstrating proper sportsmanship and a consistently high work ethic. If her team works hard and does their personal best each time they take to the floor, Coach Beck feels she has a winning team.
