The Cinderella post season for the Lake Washington High School girls basketball team continued Friday night in Puyallup as the Kangs defeated Sumner 51-44 to advance to the elite eight of the state tournament.
The two teams played a tight contest throughout the first half, tied at 11-11 after the first quarter and separated by just one point at halftime.
But Lake Washington took control during the third quarter, going on a 17-9 run to take a 35-28 lead into the final eight minutes of play.
Both teams turned up the offense during the fourth quarter, each scoring 16 points. But Sumner could not cut into the Kang lead and eventually ran out of time.
With the win, Lake Washington’s overall record this season sits a 13-12.
The Kangs will take a No. 2 seed to the state tournament next week at the Sun Dome in Yakima.
