More than 400 John Muir Elementary School students and their families celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss during the school’s 13th annual Family Literacy Night on March 3.

Muir families were treated to a 1,000-cupcake pixel artwork of “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.” The art was engineered by Buzz Anderson, husband of Gail Anderson, secretary at Muir.

“Family Literacy Night is our opportunity to celebrate with families the importance of being strong readers, writers, and thinkers,” Muir principal Jeff DeGallier said. “We appreciate the work and effort our students make every day to develop these critical life skills.”

During a two-week “Readathon” leading up to Family Literacy Night, students read 62,000 minutes and raised $5,377 for the school.

The school also hosted guest readers, including Kirkland Mayor, Amy Walen, and Lake Washington School District Superintendent, Dr. Traci Pierce.
