International Community School delegates win awards during Model UN conference

The International Community School Model United Nations Club had an incredible five of 16 delegates win awards for their work at the Washington Model United Nations Conference (WASMUN) at Seattle University, which more than 300 students from 19 schools attended.

The International Community School Model United Nations Club had an incredible five of 16 delegates win awards for their work at the Washington Model United Nations Conference (WASMUN) at Seattle University, which more than 300 students from 19 schools attended.

At Model UN conferences, students are assigned a country and committee and simulate realistic debate on critical international issues of the day. This requires intensive preparation, as delegates are expected to be experts on the foreign policy of the countries they represent and be able to translate that policy into law.

ICS Vice President Emma Tremblay won Best Diplomat as Germany in the European Union, Amanda Collyer won Best Diplomat as Peru in the World Health Organization (WHO), Secretary Hugh Higinbotham won Best Statesman as Germany in the Economic and Social Committee (ECOSOC), and Treasurer Nicola Scutt won Best Delegate as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Forum. Finally, Club President Eleanor Lyon won Best Diplomat as Germany in the Security Council, the highest award presented at the conference.
