A community of Kirkland and Redmond families will join together this Christmas season to share with their neighbors and friends one of their favorite Christmas traditions – the display of nativity scenes (also known as creches).

Every year, Christmas nativities are lovingly unpacked and displayed in homes across the world. Each is unique and cherished by its owner. Children fascinated with the scenes rearrange the figurines many times, building ties that carry on this beautiful tradition.

Many of the nativity scenes – figurines and models depicting the birth of Jesus Christ – are handmade, and have been handed down for generations. Old or new, from all over the world they all reflect the joy of Christmas.

This community display blends those rich traditions with love. The annual community nativity display is hosted by the Kirkland Washington Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The public is invited to view the display from 5-9 p.m. on Dec. 10, at the church’s Totem Lake Chapel, 13320 NE 132nd St.

All people in the community are invited to bring their nativity sets for display. For more information about displaying your nativity set, please call Scott Perry at 206-661-2057.

In addition to the display of nativity scenes, there will also be a 15-minute live nativity presentation starting at 5:30, 6:00, 6:30, and 8:15 p.m. in the parking lot. The 6 p.m. presentation will be in Spanish.

There will also be a live Christmas music concert from 7-8 p.m. featuring choirs and soloists.

Admission to the displays and concert is free of charge (no tickets are required), and people of all ages are welcome.

Refreshments will be served.
