Kirkland Parks Board member Jason Chinchilla took a slim 22-vote lead against businessman Bill Henkens in new King County Elections results released Monday in the primary for Kirkland City Council position No. 2.
Incumbent Shelley Kloba has already punched her ticket to the general election in November with 6,076 votes or 57.94 percent. The top-two primary for the council position has become a battle to see who will face Kloba for the seat.
Chinchilla has 1,763 votes, or 16.81 percent compared to 1,741 votes or 16.6 percent for Henkens. Henkens held a slim lead on election night, Aug. 4, but Chinchilla has made gains with every release of new vote totals by King County Elections.
Jory Hamilton is in a distant fourth place with 878 votes or 8.37 percent.
The Washington Secretary of State has to certify the election by Aug. 21.
