Both sides of the 520 Bridge will collide as Kirkland band Kung Foo Grip battles three Seattle bands at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19 at the Experience Music Project in Seattle.

Kung Foo Grip was selected out of 136 entries to qualify for the Sound Off! Battle of the Bands semifinals.

Hip hop duo Greg Cypher and Mc Eff Is H of Kirkland say they can “spin tracks so hot Mt. St. Helens starts to steam every time they touch a microphone.”

Their beats are tinged with a scratchiness and familiarity of early 90’s rap, but with fresh lyrical acrobatics that sting with relevancy.

Kung Foo Grip will battle Seattle bands Chinook Jargon (indie rock), Electricity and its Double (indie rock), and Fit For Hounds (alternative). The winning band will go on to compete in the Battle of the Bands finals on March 5.

Tickets for this kid-friendly competition on Feb. 19 are $10 general admission, $7 students and EMP members. For tickets, visit www.empsfm.org.
