Kirkland to ring in annexation with three celebration events

With less than 30 days until the annexation of Finn Hill, North Juanita and Kingsgate takes effect, final plans are being made for three celebration events. Annexation and current city residents are invited to the following activities.

With less than 30 days until the annexation of Finn Hill, North Juanita and Kingsgate takes effect, final plans are being made for three celebration events. Open House

The event runs from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 1 at Kirkland City Hall. Council members and other elected officials will host a welcome at 5:30 p.m. followed by cake (donated by Totem Lake QFC) and coffee (donated by Parkplace Starbucks).

Informational and interactive displays will be set up in the main areas of the upper and lower floors of City Hall, and in the Peter Kirk Room and Houghton Room. All residents are invited to meet their elected and appointed officials, meet staff, learn their way around City Hall and learn about their new government. City Hall is located at 123 Fifth Avenue, Kirkland.

Business breakfast

In an effort to better connect the business community, businesses in the annexation area and current city limits are invited to a complimentary breakfast from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 2 at the Casino Caribbean.

Council members will speak about Kirkland’s business community. Capt. Mike Ursino, Kirkland Police Department, will share some insights into the Police Department in an entertaining way. Seating is limited and reservations can be made by e-mailing businessbreakfast@kirklandwa.gov. Casino Caribbean is located at 12526 N.E. 144th Street, Kirkland.

Community celebration

The final event to welcome annexation residents will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, June 3 at Juanita Beach Park, Forbes House. Kirkland City Council members and other elected officials will give welcome remarks at 6 p.m.

The council will serve strawberry shortcake (donations from Trader Joe’s of Kirkland, Shari’s Restaurant of Kirkland, and Juanita Village Starbucks).  Kamiakin Junior High School Jazz Ensemble and Juanita High School Pep Band will perform, 7–7:30 p.m., followed by Kirkland’s own Back Burner bluegrass band.

The evening will include a free classic movie – “The Sandlot” – thanks to a very generous contribution from Carillon Properties. Activities will be held on the north side of the park where the Juanita Friday Market is located.
