The following is a release from the Kirkland Police Department:
The Kirkland Police Department receives unusual requests at times but the one it received two weeks ago caught the attention of a Police Captain and Administrative Assistants.
A Kirkland mother e-mailed the Department to find out if it had any “fishing related events” planned. Teresa was reaching out to the Police Department because her five year old special needs son “Oren” has, in her words “become completely obsessed with going fishing – with police officers.”
Teresa stated that her son has very specific goals for the fishing trip. The officers have to be in uniform and they have to “take off their police officer hats and put on fishing caps to go fishing with us.” It did not take long for the plan to be official.
Tomorrow around 20 Kirkland Police Officers and family members will be volunteering their time to fish with the young boy and enjoy a picnic lunch with Oren and his mom at Gold Creek Trout Farm, 15844 148th Ave. NE, Woodinville, WA.
“And yes, the officers will be in full uniform and wearing fishing caps,” promises Lt. Mike Murray. “In speaking with some of the officers, they all say that they can’t think of a better way to spend their off duty time.”
