Interlake gave the Lake Washington High baseball team a good scare in the top of the seventh inning, but closer Ethan Liggett managed two strikeouts in the final frame for a 2-1 KingCo victory on Friday at Lee Johnson Field.

Jake Wikel scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth inning, helping the Kangaroos (18-2 overall, 16-2) overcome a second-inning deficit.

Paul Falco hit an RBI double to left field in the bottom of the fourth for the tying run.

Interlake out-hit Lake Washington 8-4 as Harry Xue pitched an efficient five innings with three hits, three strikeouts and two walks.

Connor Johnson and Marcus Noteboom allowed six hits with three strikeouts in the same five innings before Liggett stepped on to close.

Xue was closely involved in Interlake’s push for a tying run in the top of the seventh. Xue led off with a single to left field, and tried to break up a double play shortly thereafter, but was called for offensive interference.

Liggett walked a batter, then struck out Duncan Varela with runners on second and third to end the game.

With a 2-1 loss in the season series to Mercer Island, the Kangaroos finish second in the regular season league standings, and will take the No. 2 seed into the league tournament.

Next, Lake Washington is scheduled to take on the league’s No. 3 seed — Interlake — in the first round of the 3A KingCo tournament at 4 p.m. on May 7 at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue.
