I have had the pleasure of knowing Shelley since our kids were in grade school. From the beginning, she was happy to help out with vision screenings, fundraisers, field trips, and the like, but she really found her home in the advocacy committee. In no time she was learning about the issues that faced our kids, and wrote legislators to share the needs of students. She moved up in the ranks to serve on the PTSA council, recruiting and training advocacy chairs. She went to Olympia on many PTA Focus Day events to meet legislators and advocate for kids. Eventually, she served for two years as the legislative director for the Washington State PTA, and I’ve joined her in Olympia and have seen her in action. She was never afraid to speak up and ask the hard questions.
Her passion for community service led her to join other groups including the Lake Washington Schools Foundation and the Kirkland Park Board, lending her leadership, interest and knowledge to these community organizations. She continues as a leader on the Kirkland City Council. She is supported and respected by so many because Shelley is committed to community; understanding that a strong community improves the quality of life for all. She is a patient listener and has a way of connecting to people in a way that I rarely see in politicians today. Her concerns are your concerns; funding schools, improving transportation, and a commitment to public safety. I believe she is a consensus builder who will work hard for you to get things done in Olympia. Join me in electing my friend and neighbor, Shelley Kloba for State Representative.
