The youngest Juanita High boys’ tennis team in a decade hit the courts this week, featuring a lineup dominated by underclassmen.
Of the 30 players this fall, 23 are freshmen of sophomores.
The Rebels return three seniors in Will Ramstead, Holden McGovern and Spencer Nokes as the top of Juanita’s lineup.
Juniors Keegan Decker and Anuj Ankit return to the team, as does sophomore Nick Lammers.
The Rebels graduated seven varsity seniors from last season’s team, led by Zach Richter.
Justin Ochsner returns for his 11th season as the program’s head coach, and said he was excited for the upcoming year.
“We have a lot of depth this year and will likely do very well deep into the lower varsity and JV matches,” he said.
Aleksa Milovanovic will be a junior this season. Michael Gerry, Nicolai Lammers, Dominic Peloquin and Tyler Yim round out the list of varsity sophomores. Jake Haas, Nathan Kantor, Sahir Karmali and Erik Odderson are freshmen.
The Rebels were scheduled to open the season on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at home agains Bothell, but the opening matches were rained out. Next, Juanita is set to take on Lake Washington at 3:45 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9 at Juanita High School.
