It took only two swings for Juanita High’s Brynne Radke to find her stroke.
Radke’s solo homer led off the bottom of the first inning for the Juanita High softball team, carrying the Rebels to an 8-2 KingCo League win over Mercer Island on Wednesday, April 20, at Juanita High School in Kirkland.
The Rebels (9-5 overall, 9-3) won for the seventh time in eight games, and can clinch one of the top two seeds in the KingCo 3A tournament with another victory.
Lexi Blackburn had two RBIs, despite going 1-4 from the plate, while Jordan Schroeder went 2-3 with two RBIs and a walk.
Briar Swayne and Lisa Nelson each had RBIs for Juanita.
Megan Murray picked up the win for the Rebels, going four innings with four hits, three strikeouts and two walks. Nelson pitched the final three innings, striking out seven batters and allowing three hits.
Next, Juanita is scheduled to play Sammamish at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 25 at Juanita High School.
• Lake Washington 11, Liberty 1. The Kangaroos wasted no time in jumping on Liberty for a five-inning KingCo League win over the Patriots on Wednesday in Renton.
Marissa Ewald drove a three-run homer into center field, Hannah Walker knocked an RBI single into right field and Tori Bivens tagged up and scored to give the Kangs (9-0, 9-2) a five-run lead in the top of the first.
Ewald and Bivens both finished with three RBIs, while Hannah Steele had two RBIs.
Bivens went the distance for the Kangs, striking out 13 batters and giving up three hits with one walk in five innings.
Next, Lake Washington is scheduled to play Interlake at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22 at Lake Washington High School in Kirkland. The Kangaroos need to win four of their final seven games to clinch the league’s No. 1 seed.
