Lake Washington’s Tori Bivens threw a no-hitter on Thursday, leading the Kangaroos to a 13-0 win over Interlake in the first round of the 3A KingCo softball tournament at Woodinville High School.

Bivens threw eight swinging strikes in the final inning, but didn’t think much of it — or the no-hitter, which she didn’t mention.

“I’m throwing whatever my catcher calls, and then I’m really focused and I don’t notice anything beyond that,” she said.

It didn’t take long for the Kangaroos (18-3) to put the game out of reach, jumping out to an 8-0 lead a second inning that included a two-run homer from Hannah Walker.

Walker was one of two Lake Washington players to finish perfect from the plate. Walker and Ewald both went 3-3 with three RBIs.

Bivens and Olivia Smallman both had two RBIs.

Next, the Kangs will have a shot at their crosstown rival, Juanita, in the tournament championship game. In the last meeting, Juanita snapped a long losing streak in the series.

“We’ll probably see them again, because they’re a fantastic team, in districts. Win or loss, we’re going to play as hard as we can,” said Bivens, who closed the final six innings of the earlier loss.

Bivens said the Kangs still hold somewhat of a grievance.

“A little bit, but it’s good for us because we need to know how to cope with a loss and I think that was very helpful,” she said.

First pitch at Woodinville High School is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
