Rebels compete well at Oregon Relays | Prep track

The boys' sprint medley relay team from Juanita High took second place in the high school varsity race at the Oregon Relays on Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

The boys’ sprint medley relay team from Juanita High took second place in the high school varsity race at the Oregon Relays on Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Makiah Gilmer, Salvon Ahmed, Randy Jones and Noah Kells finished in 3 minutes, 33.58 seconds, a race which features a pair of 200-meter legs, a 400-meter leg and an 800-meter leg. The Rebel four edged Eagle High School (Idaho) by just over a second, and finished behind Wilson High School from Long Beach, Calif.

A handful of other Juanita boys’ relay teams finished in the top-10, including the 4×100 meter team of Gilmer, Ahmed, Nathan Casebier and Ryan Greenwalt, which took ninth in 43.9 seconds.

Brighton Maughan, Ahmed, Gilmer and Greenwalt took eighth in the 4×200 relay in 1:31.81. The Rebels took 13th in the 4×400 meter relay, but set a season-best mark of 3:30.8.

The Rebel boys had a number of indivudual standouts as well. Goodwin placed sixth in the steeplechase, Jones took 13th in the long jump and Tom Mikkelson took 12th in the 3,000 meters. Mikkelson also took 12th in the 1,500 meters.

The top finisher for the Juanita girls was junior Shelby Wilks, who took 26th in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 49.34 seconds. Wilks set season bests in the 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles. The Rebel girls set season bests in the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relays.

Next, the Rebels are scheduled to take on Liberty and Inglemoor at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 21 at Juanita High School.
