LA GRANDE, Ore. — The Northwest University volleyball team lost consecutive matches for the first time this season on Saturday, falling 3-1 to Eastern Oregon University as Cascade Conference play rolls toward the conference tournament.
EOU overcame a loss in the first set to win the match 24-26, 25-28, 25-20, 25-15 and sweep the season series from Northwest.
Eastern (14-1 Cascade, 21-1) remains atop the conference standings while Northwest (10-4, 13-6 continues to cling to third.
Hannah Hanson led the Eagles on Saturday with 11 kills while Amanda Waterman had nine kills and Mattie Jo Johnson had eight.
Eastern’s Makayla Lindburg finished with 15 kills.
The Eagles lost to College of Idaho, 3-1, on Friday in Caldwell, Idaho.
Next, Northwest is scheduled to take on Corban (11-3, 15-5) on Friday, Oct. 21 in Salem, Ore. Corban beat Northwest 3-0 on Sept. 24 in Kirkland.
MENS SOCCER
The Eagles let a first half lead slip away on Saturday, losing a big conference match to Carroll College, 3-2, on Saturday in Kirkland.
Northwest (5-4-0, 9-5-0) took a lead in the ninth minute on an own goal, and went up 2-1 when Branson Corwin scored on a free kick in the 45th minute.
Jacob Groh and Alessio Georgiades scored in the second half for Carroll (5-4-0, 7-7-0).
The Eagles also held an early lead on Friday, Oct. 14, but lost to Great Falls, 2-1. Chris Iacolucci scored in the 32nd minute, and Great Falls’ Mohamed Oulare tallied a second-half brace.
Next, Northwest is scheduled to take on the conference’s top squad, Rocky Mountain College, on Friday, Oct. 21 in Billings, Mont.
WOMENS SOCCER
The Eagles beat Great Falls, 1-0, on Friday afternoon and drew with Carrol College, 0-0, on Saturday, both in double overtime.
Tatyana Reveles scored a golden goal on a 35-yard free kick in the 103rd minute against Great Falls.
Northwest (4-2-1, 8-4-1) is one point behind Eastern Oregon for fourth in the conference standings, thanks to Saturday’s big result against Carroll (6-0-3, 9-3-3).
Next, the Eagles embark on a four-match road swing to end the season, beginning with a scheduled match against Rocky Mountain College on Friday, Oct. 21 in Billings, Mont.
