The Trewin Music Foundation raised enough money for several additional scholarships to help low-income musicians afford instruments at its first benefit function on Saturday, May 14 at Rose Hill Middle School.

Sportscaster and U.S. Congress hopeful Tony Ventrella was on hand as Master of Ceremonies for the event.

Tyler Lockett of the Seattle Seahawks was the function’s special guest, and spoke about how lessons learned through music in elementary and middle school has translated to his life as a professional football player.

“Our silent auction was very successful,” said Hunter Trewin, the foundation’s organizer and a current junior at Lake Washington High School. “In the end we raised over $2000, which will translate to at least eight scholarships for elementary school musicians.”

The Rose Hill Middle School orchestra, under the direction of Janet Miller, put on a performance as well.

“We were so fortunate to have them supporting us and participating in the benefit,” Trewin said.

Donations to the foundation, which will begin awarding scholarships to elementary school students in the Kirkland area beginning next school year, can be made at the foundation’s website, trewinmusicfoundation.org.
