The Juanita High football team rolled to a 36-3 conference victory over Redmond on Friday at Bergh Field in Kirkland.

The Rebels (2-1 KingCo, 3-3) won their second game in a row after starting the year 1-3, gaining momentum and taking the lead for the conference’s top Class 3A playoff berth.

“It’s awesome,” said Rebel coach Lele Teo. “The guys are really playing hard and practicing hard and trusting the process. It’s fun to watch them really get after it, and it’s good to see them get rewards for their hard work.”

Juanita senior running back Salvon Ahmed rushed 16 times for a season-best 264 yards and four touchdowns.

Quarterback JD Worcester completed 17 passes for 196 yards and one touchdown — a 50-yard strike to Sam Rice.

Dean Sise and Jake Languein both caught five passes.

Redmond (2-1, 3-4) came in with momentum having won its last two games by a total of four points, but found little running room against Juanita’s defense. The 36-3 win marked the first time all season Juanita has held a team without a touchdown.

“Our defense was lights out,” Teo said. “We gave up three points on a short field, and [Redmond] didn’t sniff the end zone the rest of the way.”

Next, Juanita travels to play Interlake on Friday, Oct. 21 in Bellevue.
