Lake Washington High girls soccer coach Ashton Griffin, in her second season with the program, was named the KingCo 2A/3A co-Coach of the Year in a recent vote by conference coaches. Griffin played for Western Washington University and coached Redmond High for a season before taking over in Kirkland.
The Kangs went 11-6-1 in Griffin’s second season, finishing second in the league standings and falling one match short of the state tournament. Bellevue’s Peter Cochran was also selected as the conference co-Coach of the Year.
Conference coaches named three Lake Washington players to the all-KingCo first team, including forward Jen Estes — the only freshman to make the first 11. Senior defender Natalie Vetto and junior midfielder Anna Henderson also made first team.
Sophomore midfielder Sakky Yoshida, senior defender Megan Lynch and junior forward Gracie Sturdevant made second-team, as did Juanita senior Brooklyn Brace.
The Rebels went 3-10-4 overall, finishing sixth in the KingCo standings.
Kang senior Lexi Enstrom and juniors Cassandra Barnes, Carlee Betterman and Megan McCarthy were given honorable mention.
Juanita juniors Sophia Collins and Colleen O’Neal and Rebel sophomore Sheer Shalom made the honorable mention squad, alongside senior Natayah Bauer. The goalkeeper was selected as the conference Keeper of the Year for her sophomore and junior seasons.
Bellevue seniors swept the MVP awards, with JoJo Harber winning the offensive honor and Katie Foster winning the defensive award.
