The Providence Classical Christian boys soccer team beat Life Christian Academy, 3-1, in the first round of the Class 1B/2B District playoffs despite blustery conditions on Nov. 1 at Big Finn Hill Park.
Providence started the game with the wind against it, giving the Life Christian Academy an advantage in the first half. It was the Highlanders who came out on top.
Right out of the gate, senior captain Joe Moisant scored on an assist from freshman striker Preston Robertstad in the fifth minute. A few minutes later, Moisant, assisted by junior Midfielder Landon Butaud, put the Highlanders on the board again with another goal.
The Providence team finished the first half strong with another goal in the 27th minute by Robertstad assisted by junior Justin Hatcher, whose perfectly placed cross allowed Robertstad to tap it in for the goal.
The halftime score was 3-0, another testament to the nationally ranked goalie senior Jackson Morris and his outstanding defensive players: Hatcher, eighth-grader Cole Lyshol, junior Michael Howard, and junior Caleb Pineda.
The shut-out would not remain in tact, though, as Josh Beasinger, assisted by Landon Beasinger, put one in the goal with a header off a corner kick for the Eagles.
The win put the Highlanders into the next round of the district playoffs, and automatically qualified Providence for a spot in the state playoffs. Next, the Highlanders are schedule to play Crosspoint Academy on Thursday, Nov. 3 at Kingston High School.

The Highlanders suffered their first defeat on the season Oct. 26.
The Providence players made an uncharacteristic error eight minutes in which the Hurricanes blew through the defense to score three quick goals in the first half. The Highlanders came back with two of their own goals in the second half but Mount Vernon scored on a penalty kick to ice the match.
Providence 12, La Conner 0
Moisant lead the team in scoring with seven goals on Oct. 28, which puts him on top for not only the league but also the state with 29 goals on the season. Captain Landon Butaud scored three goals and registered four assists. Butaud now leads the state in assists with 16 on the season.
Unlikely scoring came from freshman Benjamin Brokaw and junior sweeper Caleb Pineda. Freshmen Jackson Letsche, Preston Robertstad and senior Keeper Jackson Morris all had assists. Morris finished the season as the top goalie in the state and ranks number 10 in the nation at 0.4 goals against average.
