The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter police blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 1,000 per week.
Between April 7 – April 14, there were 286 traffic incidents, 27 traffic accidents, four DUIs, 40 general traffic incidents, 29 alarm calls, 15 abandoned vehicles, seven burglaries, eight incidents of fraud, 17 civil incidents, 12 cases of harassment, nine thefts, 16 vehicle prowls, three vehicle thefts, 25 warrants served, 14 noise complaints, four animal calls, nine incidents of domestic violence, 11 disturbances and one sex offense.
April 8
Domestic: 12:29 a.m., 10200 block of Slater Ave. NE; A 56-year-old male was arrested for Assault 4, domestic violence, Mal Mischief 3, DV and interfering with DV reporting after breaking a female’s cell phone and shoving her to the ground after she attempted to call 911 from a different phone.
Traffic: 1:48 a.m., 11400 block of SB 405 NE; Officers attempted to stop a vehicle for reckless driving. The vehicle slowed, but would not pull over. The vehicle continued for 20 blocks, still not stopping. The vehicle was seen exiting the freeway at Northeast 85th Street. A short time later, the vehicle was seen speeding in a neighborhood and stopped on traffic. The driver attempted to not stop for police, but was arrested for reckless driving and failure to obey a police officer.
Assault: 3:23 p.m., 200 block of Parkplace Center; A juvenile male confronted a 14-year-old male outside a shopping mall grocery store with the threat of a knife. Intent was to gain information from the victim regarding the location of the suspect’s sister, a 13-year-old runaway. The suspect was arrested, and the case referred to the King County Prosecutor’s Office — Juvenile Division.
Harassment: 5:03 p.m., 5500 block of 113th Pl. NE; A 16-year-old female reported harassing text messages from a 42-year-old male to a non-disclosed female victim. The male sent messages of a handgun and stated he was going to kill the victim and himself. He sent over 100 text messages to the victim on April 8. As of the case report, the male’s location was unknown. Felony charges to be filed.
April 11
Trespass: 1:09 a.m., 17800 block of 155th pl. SE; A pair of 25-year-old males were trespassed from the Liquid Lime Bar after they were asked to leave the bar by the bartender because they were being sexually aggressive toward women at the bar. After they were asked to leave the bar, they refused. When they did leave, one of the males slapped the bartender in the face as they were leaving.
DUI:1:44 a.m., 11300 block of 124th Ave. NE; A 43-year-old male was arrested for DUI after he was observed driving half way in the center turn lane in about the 10700 block of 124th Ave. NE. The male provided two breath samples of .123 and .120 at KPD. He was booked into the Kirkland Jail due to having multiple prior DUI convictions.
Vehicle prowl: 9:11 p.m., 17000 block of 144th Pl. NE; A 24-year-old male was arrested for Vehicle Prowl. The stolen property — jumper cables, a tow rope, two trailer hitches, two blankets, a first-aid kid, a headlamp and rain gear — was recovered and returned to the owner.
Malicious mischief: 11 p.m., 900 block of 6th St. S; A male advised that he had gotten into an argument with his new roommate, a 33-year-old male. The first male requested the second male give him rent that he was owed, and the second male gave only $140. This upset the first male, as it was not enough money. He went outside and then the second male locked the front door. The first male began to bang on the door at which time the second male called the police. The second male then saw the first male letting air out of his front driver’s side tire. Upon further inspection, police noticed that the second male’s driver’s side door had been freshly keyed. A charge of Malicious Mischief in the 3rd degree, domestic violence, was forwarded to the prosecutor.
April 12
Domestic: 11:27 p.m., 11500 block of 124th Ave. NE; A 27-year-old female and her girlfriend, a 25-year-old, were called in after having a heated physical altercation in and around the Dub Pub. The called described the 27-year-old as striking the 25-year-old several times during the fight. On contact, they explained that they were having a verbal argument over their one-year relationship, and the 27-year-old physically pulled the 25-year-old out of the bar after the bartender asked them to leave. The 25-year-old said she was hit with a closed fist to her chest several times as they attempted to get away. The 27-year-old was taken into custody and booked for Assault 4 DV, and booked into KPD.
April 13
Theft: 4:30 p.m., 200 block of Central Way; A 48-year-old male was arrested for shoplifting, obstruction and drug paraphernalia after he stole $1.98 worth of candy — a Tiger’s Milk energy bar from a Kirkland store.
Assault: 2:40 p.m., 10200 block of NE 132nd St.; A 32-year-old male assaulted a staff member at Fairfax Hospital. The nurse was not injured, and the assault did not meet King County Prosecutor’s felony filing guidelines. However, the male was arrested for his felony assault 3 warrant out of Snohomish County and was booked into King County Jail. The male will be charged through investigation for assault in the 4th degree for the incident at Fairfax Hospital.
