A 19-year-old Kirkland man was taken to a local hospital after a metal cylinder came off a flatbed truck and crashed through the windshield of his car in eastern Washington on Friday.

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), Zace A. Lewis was transported to Cascade Medical Center in Levenworth with unspecified injuries.

The incident took place at approximately 1:45 p.m. on State Route 97, about 13 miles southeast of Levenworth. The white 2000 Chevrolet truck and the 2007 Honda Civic were traveling southbound on SR97 when the cylinder broke free from the bed of the truck and flew into the air, smashing into the right front of Zace’s vehicle, crashing through the windshield and striking the steering wheel. The man’s condition was not released.

The driver of the truck, a 39-year-old man from Wenatchee, was not injured in the incident.

A WSP report states that the cause of the accident was a failure to properly secure the load and the driver of the truck was cited for the violation.
