None. Zip. Nada.

Kirkland police officers, though, were busy enforcing the private fireworks ban. Officers responded to 67 fireworks calls and issued five citations from July 1 until the early hours of July 5.

During the 24-hour period of Independence Day, officers responded to 215 calls, 50 of which were fireworks-related.

The Kirkland Police Department (KPD) is disposing of fireworks that were confiscated. The majority of calls resulted in confiscated fireworks.

Fireworks calls dropped in comparison with 2015, which saw 74 calls over the holiday weekend and 54 calls on July 4. Audra Weber, neighborhood resource officer with KPD, said this year was a little less busy than in the past, especially in respect to parking after the city fireworks show was over.

“People were pretty well-behaved when it came to traffic,” she said. “I’ve been here for 16 years and missed one Fourth of July doing traffic [duty], and this year seemed pretty well-behaved.”

Weber said the holiday falling on a weekday in conjunction with cooler weather might have had an effect on the demeanor of drivers.

Kirkland police reported only two DUI arrests over the holiday weekend, while Washington State Patrol arrested 54 subjects for DUI. Washington State Patrol reported no serious injury accidents or fatalities over the weekend.

The parade, which wound downtown early Monday afternoon, also went off without a hitch.

“I’ve heard people remarking that hardly anything went wrong,” said Kirkland Communications Program Director Kathy Cummings. “There wasn’t even a lost child.”

According to Kirkland Downtown Association Director Barbie Collins Young, Falun Dafa won first place for the best float, taking home a grand prize of $1,000. Mermaid Hair Extensions won the second-place prize of $500.
