The Hopelink Emergency Services Center in Kirkland will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17 to accept donations of food and toys for the center’s annual holiday gift room.
Particularly needed this year are new clothing and gifts for older kids, such as sports equipment and memorabilia, electronics, cameras, jewelry and makeup kits. All ages need warm clothes, sweatshirts and sports clothing.
The “Lend a Hoping Hand” campaign is aimed at helping local homeless and low-income families, children, seniors and people with disabilities have a happier holiday season. The rooms are stocked with donations from local toy drives, corporate-sponsored giving trees, and individual contributions.
Last year, 2,772 children received toys, games, books, clothing and stocking stuffers through the gift room at the Kirkland-Northshore Center.
Increased demand for food bank items this year suggests that demand for the gift rooms will be up as well.
The Kirkland gift room will be open to serve pre-registered clients beginning Dec. 19. The center is located at 11011 120th Ave. NE in Kirkland.
The gift rooms are in their 17th year.
