Kirkland residents Tom and Dee Roe, members of Holy Family Catholic Parish, received the St. Vincent de Paul Least of My Brethren Award for outstanding service to the needy in Kirkland at the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Seattle/King Co. Council’s Appreciation Dinner on March 27. The event, held at Kennedy High School in Burien, celebrated the special volunteers who make home visits and run programs to assist neighbors in need.

Tom and Dee Roe were one of seven awardees in King County who received the St. Vincent de Paul’s Least of My Brethren Award.

For eight years, the Roe’s have served the poor as members of the St. Vincent de Paul all-volunteer group at Holy Family. They have made home visits to help to neighbors in need preventing eviction, hunger, utility shut-off and more. Tom has been president of the group for six years and rebuilt the group’s outreach in the community. Dee was an integral contribution to organizing a home visit team required to understand the needs of the poor in the community. Both have been instrumental in the recruitment of volunteers for St. Vincent de Paul.

The Least of My Brethren Award is taken from the biblical passage of Matthew 25:40 where Christ says: “Whatever you did it to one of the least of by brethren (Feed the Hungry, Clothe the Naked, Visit those in prison) you did it to me.”
