Director Elizabeth McMurray-Hauk has taken Shakespeare’s earliest comedy and adapted it to the poodle skirt, saddle shoe, Rockin’ Robin world of teen love.

The play opens in the Verona High School gym as the class of 1957 celebrates their graduation with a sock hop. Valentine (Rob Weatherford) bids farewell to his best friend Proteus (Reid Watson) as he prepares to head off to the University of Milan. Proteus, in love with the beautiful Julia, at first stays behind but soon finds himself following Valentine to Milan. Friendship is put to the test as Proteus forgets about his high school sweetheart and falls for Valentine’s college girlfriend, Silvia (Annemarie Henesy).

Hit tunes from the fabulous fifties, beatniks and a knight on a motorcycle all add to the fun as Juanita Drama brings Shakespeare into the Nifty Fifties. Performances run from 7:30-9:30 p.m. through March 24 at the Juanita High School Theatre, 10601 N.E. 132ND St., Kirkland.

Cost is $5 students, $10 adults, $5 for all thursday tickets.
