The Lake Washington High School gymnastics team will advance to districts thanks to a strong performance Saturday on Mercer Island at the 3A/2A KingCo meet.
The Kangs finished second overall with a team score of 157.6 points, while Juanita was seventh overall with a team score of 134.975 out of eight teams.
Lake Washington athlete Maya Kaspi was the highest scoring all-around gymnast from Kirkland, placing fourth with a score of 33.725. Kangs Manon Debuire (sixth) and Bailey Johnson (eighth) both finished in the top ten during the meet for all-around. Debuire scored 32.6 points while Johnson scored 32.375 points.
Johnson finished third on beam with a score of 8.925, while Kaspi was sixth with an 8.675. Teammate Nadia Popovici finished 10th with an 8.2.
Kaspi was third overall on floor exercise with an 8.9, while Johnson finished fifth (8.75).
Debuire finished fifth on bars with a score of 8.0, while Kaspi was sixth with a 7.85.
Juanita’s Millie Andrilenas, Popovici and a gymnast from Bellevue all finished in a three-way tie for ninth with a score of 8.6.
Kaspi was ninth overall during the vault with a score of 8.3, while Debuire tied for 10th with a score of 8.25.
The district meet will be held at Mount Si High School Saturday.
