Juanita’s Kelly Tannhauser and Emilie Kaufman led the way at the 3A state swim meet on Nov. 13-15 at King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
The pair of dynamic juniors won state titles in the 200-yard freestyle race (Tannhauser), with a time of one minute, 52 seconds, and the 100 freestyle (Kaufman), with a time of 52.51.
Other top-8 finishes for Juanita swimmers: Juanita finished fifth in the 200 medley relay (Hilary Langsam, Melanie Langsam, Rachael Kurtz and Mandy Wilson), Kurtz finished seventh in the 200 freestyle, Celia Pinczower finished third in the one-meter dive competition, Tannhauser placed second in the 500 freestyle, Kurtz placed seventh in the 500 yard freestyle, Juanita finished second in the 200 freestyle relay (Kaufman, H. Langsam, Wilson and Tannhauser), Kaufman finished second in the 100 breaststroke, Melanie Langsam placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke, and Juanita finished third in the 400 freestyle relay (Kaufman, Hanna Armstrong, Kurtz and Tannhauser).
Diver Anna Steiner led Lake Washington at the 4A state meet.
Steiner finished second in the dive competition, with 397.85 points, just under 15 points fewer than the winner. Steiner collected the top score in the preliminary round.
Lake Washington finished fourth in the 200 freestyle relay (Julia Reisner, Jessie Chansler, Kendra Clinton and Margo Clinton). The Kangs placed sixth in the 400 freestyle relay (Reisner, K. Clinton, M. Clinton and Chansler).
