Proliance Surgeons recognized Sen. Rodney Tom, D-Bellevue, with its “Distinguished Leadership Award.”

The honor – given in recognition of Tom’s leadership and consensus-building during the 2013 legislative session – was presented in a meeting at Proliance’s corporate office in Seattle.

“Sen. Tom was instrumental in working to make government leaner while simultaneously creating a stronger economic engine for our state,” said David Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of Proliance. “It would be an understatement to say that his leadership was superb in the 2013 session.”

Proliance Surgeons is one of the country’s largest surgical practices, with 185 physicians specializing in orthopedics, ear nose and throat, ophthalmology and general surgery. Its physicians are located at more than 40 offices throughout King, Snohomish, Pierce, Skagit and Benton counties.

“Health care is a crucial area of state policy and it’s an honor to be singled out by one of our region’s leading groups of physicians,” said Tom, of Kirkland’s 48th Legislative District. “From the day our bipartisan coalition came together in the Senate, our focus was on collaboration and building consensus; it’s humbling to be recognized for those ideals.”
